PM Modi's Upcoming Visit to Uttar Pradesh: Key Projects and Developments
Prime Minister Modi's Two-Day Visit to Uttar Pradesh
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh. According to his official itinerary, he will begin his day on Wednesday around 8:30 AM with a visit to the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi before heading to Hardoi. At approximately 11:30 AM, he is scheduled to inaugurate the Ganga Expressway, a significant infrastructure project costing around ₹36,230 crores. This six-lane, 594-kilometer greenfield high-speed corridor connects various districts including Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj, linking the western, central, and eastern regions of the state.
Impact of the Ganga Expressway
The Ganga Expressway is expected to reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from the current 10-12 hours to about six hours. A notable feature of this project is a 3.5-kilometer-long airstrip constructed in Shahjahanpur district, which is significant for both economic benefits and national security. The expressway will also enhance the pilgrimage circuit, making access to major religious sites like Garhmukteshwar, Kalki Dham, Belha Devi Dham, Chandrika Devi Shakti Peeth, and Triveni Sangam much easier. This will allow devotees to visit multiple pilgrimage sites in a single trip, thereby increasing the duration of religious tourism, reducing costs, and boosting local economic activities. The expressway will serve as a backbone for the state's extensive expressway network, which includes the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Jewar Link Expressway, Farrukhabad Link Expressway, and the proposed extension from Meerut to Haridwar.
Development Projects and Initiatives
In addition to the expressway inauguration, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate various development projects worth approximately ₹6,350 crores in Varanasi. He will also address a public gathering in his parliamentary constituency and participate in a women's conference. As part of his visit, he will dedicate 48 projects worth over ₹1,050 crores to the nation and lay the groundwork for 112 projects valued at around ₹5,300 crores, which include the widening of the Varanasi-Azamgarh road, rail overbridges in Kazzakpura and Kadiyapur, and a sewage treatment plant in Bhagwanpur with a capacity of 55 MLD.
Strengthening Rail Connectivity
To enhance rail connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, Modi will flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains—from Varanasi to Pune (Hadapsar) and from Ayodhya to Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus). This initiative is expected to significantly benefit pilgrims, students, migrant workers, and small traders in the state.
Boosting Tourism and Local Economy
The two prominent religious sites in Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi and Ayodhya, attract millions of devotees each year. Improved rail connectivity from major cities like Mumbai and Pune is anticipated to promote tourism, facilitate easier travel, and strengthen livelihoods associated with these regions.
