Modi's trip marks the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina since Indira Gandhi. He expressed optimism that this journey would enhance trade relations between the two countries. Previously, in 2018, Modi attended the G20 summit in Argentina.
Key to Buenos Aires Presented
During his stay, the Mayor of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri, presented Modi with the key to the city. Modi took to social media to express his gratitude, stating that receiving the key from Macri was a significant honor. This key is traditionally given to distinguished individuals, granting them special privileges and symbolizing friendship and respect.
First Bilateral Visit in 57 Years
This visit is notable as it is the first bilateral trip by an Indian Prime Minister to Argentina in 57 years, the last being Indira Gandhi in 1968. However, this is Modi's second visit to Argentina, following his attendance at the G20 summit in 2018.
Discussions on Trade Relations
During his visit, Modi engaged in discussions with Argentine President Javier Milei regarding bilateral relations. They focused on various topics, including defense, agriculture, mining, oil, and gas, with an emphasis on strengthening trade ties.

PM Modi is on a foreign tour from July 2 to July 10, visiting five countries. After Argentina, he will head to Brazil to participate in the BRICS summit, having already visited Ghana and Trinidad and Tobago.
