PM Modi Urges Preparedness Amidst Ongoing US-Iran Conflict
Prime Minister's Address in Rajya Sabha
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha, urging citizens to remain vigilant in light of the challenges posed by the ongoing US-Iran conflict in West Asia. He highlighted the potential long-term impacts on energy supply chains and inflation. Modi noted that the war, which has persisted for over three weeks, has triggered a significant energy crisis worldwide, a situation that is concerning for India as well. He mentioned that the government has established an inter-ministerial group to regularly assess obstacles in import-export activities.
The Prime Minister also pointed out that nearly ten million Indians reside and work in Gulf countries, emphasizing that their livelihoods are a major concern for India.
Proceedings in Lok Sabha
During the Lok Sabha session, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated that due to various government initiatives, farmers' incomes have not only doubled but in some cases tripled, with some farmers experiencing an eightfold increase in earnings. This statement was made in response to a supplementary question from Trinamool Congress MP Sougata Roy.
Congress MP Manish Tewari referenced the West Asia conflict, claiming that fuel prices are being kept in check ahead of upcoming assembly elections in several states, but warned that the nation will face a new economic reality once the elections conclude.
BJP MP Naveen Jindal remarked that under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, the government has previously navigated adverse conditions and will continue to do so. He expressed this during discussions on the Finance Bill, 2026, asserting that the government's motto of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' is not merely a slogan but a guiding ideology.
Congress MP Deepender Hooda criticized the government, stating that the nation is facing not only a 'cylinder crisis' but also a 'surrender crisis,' where decisions are being made by the United States. He accused the government of causing economic harm through misguided policies.
Independent MP Abdul Rashid Sheikh from Baramulla announced that he would donate his salary for a month to a school in Iran that suffered an attack resulting in the deaths of over 100 girls. He called for the government to stand in solidarity with Iran during the ongoing conflict.
Rajya Sabha Discussions
Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers JP Nadda informed the Rajya Sabha that there are currently 18,646 Jan Aushadhi centers operating across the country, providing affordable generic medicines. He noted that the Prime Minister's Jan Aushadhi scheme was initiated in 2008 under the previous government, but only 80 centers were established by 2014.
Concerns were raised by BJP's Sumitra Balmik regarding the noise from loudspeakers during weddings and other events disrupting students' studies during exam periods. She urged the government to take strict action on this matter.
Sanjay Singh from the Aam Aadmi Party brought up the recent fire incident in Palam, Delhi, demanding accountability for administrative negligence and strict action against those responsible. He highlighted that nine members of a single family lost their lives in the tragedy, underscoring the severity of the fire.
