PM Modi to Launch Major Infrastructure Projects in West Bengal
Prime Minister's Visit to West Bengal
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit West Bengal to inaugurate infrastructure projects worth ₹5,200 crores, including three significant metro routes. He will also address a public gathering during this visit.
According to a senior leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Prime Minister will arrive in Kolkata from Bihar and will inaugurate new sections of the Kolkata Metro before speaking at a party rally.
This visit comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding a constitutional amendment bill that proposes the removal of Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and Ministers in light of serious criminal charges. The bill was presented in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday and has been referred to a joint committee.
Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has labeled the proposed legislation as dictatorial, asserting that it represents a step beyond a super-emergency that would undermine the independence of the judiciary.
On Thursday, Modi expressed his eagerness to address BJP workers in Kolkata during a rally via a post on 'X'. He noted that public anger against the TMC is growing with each passing day, and that the people of West Bengal are looking towards the BJP due to their development agenda.
In another post, the Prime Minister mentioned that he always feels delighted to engage with the people of Kolkata and reaffirmed the government's commitment to the city's development. The upcoming events will primarily focus on enhancing connectivity.
The metro services set to be inaugurated include the Noapara-Jai Hind Airport, Sealdah-Esplanade, and Beleghata-Hemant Mukhopadhyay routes, which will improve connectivity to the airport and IT hubs.
Chief Minister Banerjee has decided not to attend the inauguration ceremony for the three new metro sections. A senior TMC leader stated that this decision was made against the backdrop of the persecution of West Bengal migrants in several BJP-ruled states.
