Inspection of Katra Railway Station and Vande Bharat Train
Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, along with Union Minister Jitendra Singh, inspected the Katra railway station and the Vande Bharat train ahead of Prime Minister Modi's visit tomorrow. The Prime Minister is set to flag off the inaugural Vande Bharat train to Kashmir. Abdullah expressed his long anticipation for this moment, stating that it feels insufficient to say he has been waiting for this day for a long time. He recalled that the rail project was initiated when he was in the 7th or 8th grade, and now his children have completed their education and started working. He remarked, 'Better late than never.'
Benefits of the New Train Service
Omar Abdullah mentioned that the inauguration of the Vande Bharat service by the Prime Minister will be beneficial. He pointed out that whenever the highways are closed, airlines tend to hike ticket prices from ₹5,000 to ₹20,000, but such issues will be resolved with this new service. During his visit, PM Modi will also inaugurate the Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway arch bridge, standing 359 meters above the Chenab River. This 1,315-meter-long steel arch bridge is designed to withstand seismic and wind forces, and the new Vande Bharat trains will reduce travel time between Jammu and Srinagar by two to three hours.
Inauguration of Key Railway Projects
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Anji Bridge, India's first cable-stayed railway bridge, constructed in a challenging terrain. Subsequently, he will flag off Vande Bharat Express trains between Katra and Srinagar, enhancing travel options for residents, tourists, and pilgrims. Additionally, PM Modi will dedicate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project to the nation. This 272-kilometer rail link, built at a cost of approximately ₹43,780 crores, includes 36 tunnels and 943 bridges over 119 kilometers, providing all-weather rail connectivity to the Kashmir Valley.
