PM Modi Strengthens Cultural Ties with Trinidad and Tobago

Cultural Exchange at Dinner in Trinidad and Tobago
On July 4, during a dinner hosted by Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented a replica of the Ram Mandir from Ayodhya, along with sacred water from the Saryu river and the Mahakumbh held in Prayagraj. This gesture highlights the strong cultural and spiritual connections between India and the Caribbean nation.
In a post on X, PM Modi expressed, "At the dinner, I shared a replica of the Ram Mandir and holy water from the Saryu river and the Mahakumbh. These gifts symbolize the profound cultural and spiritual ties between India and Trinidad & Tobago."
The dinner featured food served on a Sohari leaf, which holds significant cultural value for the people of Trinidad & Tobago, particularly those of Indian descent. PM Modi noted that this leaf is traditionally used during festivals and special occasions.
During the event in Port of Spain, PM Modi also met Rana Mohip, who performed 'Vaishnava Jana To' during the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, commending his dedication to Indian music and culture.
Earlier on Thursday, PM Modi shared insights into the cultural and historical connections between Trinidad and Tobago and India during his significant two-day visit to the Caribbean.
He remarked, "A cultural connection like no other! I was delighted to witness a Bhojpuri Chautaal performance in Port of Spain. The bond between Trinidad & Tobago and India, particularly with regions in eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, is remarkable."
Upon his arrival, PM Modi received a warm ceremonial welcome, with locals joyfully dancing to drum beats and showcasing traditional music and performances that reflect a fusion of local and Indian cultures.
This marks PM Modi's second visit to the Caribbean in just eight months, following his trip to Guyana in November 2024, underscoring India's commitment to strengthening ties with Caribbean nations and enhancing its partnership with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
