PM Modi Addresses Rajya Sabha Following President's Speech
A day after the President's address was postponed in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his response to the motion of thanks in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Opposition members vocally protested as soon as he started speaking. Many opposition leaders chanted slogans like 'Let the Leader of Opposition speak' and 'No to tyranny' as Modi commenced his address.
In a light-hearted jab at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, PM Modi suggested that given Kharge's age, he should be allowed to chant slogans while seated to avoid any discomfort. He noted that younger members were present behind him and requested that Kharge be permitted to express himself from a seated position.
Modi emphasized that the past year marked significant progress for India, describing it as a transformative period across all sectors and demographics. He stated that the first quarter of the 21st century has concluded, and the upcoming quarter is just as crucial as the second quarter of India's freedom struggle. He expressed confidence that this next phase would also be pivotal in building a developed India.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the President's address resonated with the aspirations of the middle class, lower middle class, the poor, farmers, women, and the fields of science and technology. He elaborated on how the youth of India are advancing the nation's potential and expressed optimism about India's bright future, urging everyone to recognize that the nation has reached a significant juncture.
Modi pointed out that even the wealthiest nations are experiencing an aging population, while India is witnessing a demographic shift towards a younger populace. He noted the growing global interest in India, emphasizing the recognition of the country's talent. Today, India boasts a significant pool of youthful talent, filled with dreams, determination, and capability. He asserted that India is becoming a nation that addresses global challenges.
He remarked on India's impressive growth within major economies, highlighting the unique combination of high growth and low inflation as a testament to the strength of the economy. Modi recalled that when India gained independence, it was the sixth-largest economy, but mismanagement had dropped it to the eleventh position. Now, he stated, India is rapidly moving towards becoming the third-largest economy, exuding confidence across all sectors.
