PM Modi Presents Unique Gifts to Ghana's Leaders, Celebrating Indian Heritage

A Symbol of Indian Heritage
In a significant display of India's cultural legacy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted a miniature elephant ambawari to Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, the Speaker of Ghana's Parliament, on Thursday. This intricately crafted piece reflects India's rich artistic traditions and is more than just a decorative item; it embodies the nobility associated with ceremonial processions featuring white elephants adorned with ornate howdahs.
Craftsmanship from West Bengal
The exquisite ambawari is meticulously handcrafted in West Bengal, showcasing lifelike details such as floral designs and a miniature seat atop the elephant, all carved with exceptional skill. Housed in a transparent display case, this piece not only represents Bharat's regal heritage but also its enduring legacy.
Additional Gifts and Honors
In addition to the ambawari, PM Modi presented a Bidri artwork vase to Ghana's President John Mahama and a Silver Filigree Work to his wife, Lordina Mahama. Earlier, the Prime Minister received the prestigious national honor of Ghana, the Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana, from President Mahama, acknowledging his exemplary leadership on the global stage.
A Message of Unity
While addressing the Ghanaian Parliament, PM Modi expressed his honor in speaking to a nation that embodies democratic values. He conveyed warm greetings from 1.4 billion Indians to the people of Ghana. The Prime Minister also reflected on the shared colonial history of both nations, emphasizing that despite their past, their spirits remain 'free and fearless.' He concluded by stating that the friendship between India and Ghana is 'sweeter' than the renowned Sugar Loaf Pineapple, a local delicacy.
