New Delhi, June 6: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a session of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) to deliberate on strategies for maintaining India's economic growth, enhancing resilience, and addressing the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
The discussions were centered on accelerating economic development during a period when many global economies are grappling with geopolitical tensions, disruptions in supply chains, and declining demand.
During the meeting, PM Modi and the advisory council members shared insights on policy initiatives designed to uphold India's growth path while ensuring macroeconomic stability in a complex global landscape, as reported by officials.
Additionally, the agenda included reforms aimed at improving the quality of life and business operations, with a focus on enhancing governance efficiency, minimizing compliance burdens, and fostering a more favorable investment climate.
Furthermore, the implications of the West Asia conflict were a significant topic of discussion, with council members evaluating its potential effects on India and the broader global economy.
The talks addressed concerns regarding energy markets, trade routes, and overall economic stability, as ongoing tensions in the region continue to create uncertainty in global markets.
This crucial meeting occurs as India remains one of the fastest-growing major economies, despite the backdrop of increasing global uncertainties and geopolitical strife.
India's GDP growth was projected at an impressive 7.8% for the January-March quarter (Q4) of 2025-26, with an annual growth rate of 7.7%, driven by strong performances in agriculture, construction, and services.
Given that India relies heavily on energy imports, the nation is closely monitoring regional developments, as ongoing instability could affect crude oil prices and international trade dynamics.
In attendance were two principal secretaries to the Prime Minister, PK Mishra and Shaktikanta Das, along with the EAC members.
The current EAC structure includes a chairman, three full-time members, and 11 part-time members. S Mahendra Dev serves as the chairman, with full-time members Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Sanjeev Sanyal, and Shamika Ravi.
The part-time members include Rakesh Mohan, Sajjid Z. Chinoy, Neelkanth Mishra, Nilesh Shah, TT Ram Mohan, Soumya Kanti Ghosh, KV Raju, Chetan Ghate, Pami Dua, Pulak Ghosh, and Gaurav Vallabh.
