PM Modi's Visit to Assam

On Sunday, January 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor project in Kaliabor, Assam. He also inaugurated two Amrit Bharat Express trains aimed at enhancing regional connectivity in the Northeast. During his second day in Assam, PM Modi addressed a public gathering in Kaliabor. His visit began on Saturday when he arrived in Guwahati and attended a Bodo folk dance performance called 'Bagurumba' at the Arjun Bhogeshwar Barua Stadium, featuring over 10,000 artists.

Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project

The Kaziranga Elevated Corridor aims to ensure safe passage for wildlife within the national park and promote ecotourism. Ecotourism refers to tourism that focuses on natural areas while preserving local wildlife and the environment. The project will upgrade the Kaliabor-Numaligarh section of National Highway 37 (now National Highway 715) to a four-lane road and construct an approximately 34.45-kilometer elevated corridor. Additionally, bypasses will be built at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat. This initiative seeks to improve connectivity between central and upper Assam while safeguarding the rich biodiversity of the UNESCO World Heritage site, Kaziranga National Park. The project will be implemented by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, with construction expected to be completed within 36 months.

New Amrit Bharat Trains

The two newly launched Amrit Bharat Express trains are the Guwahati (Kamakhya)-Rohtak Amrit Bharat Express and the Dibrugarh-Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) Amrit Bharat Express. These new train services will strengthen rail connectivity between the Northeast and Northern India, facilitating safer and more convenient travel for passengers.
