Strengthening Diplomatic Ties in the Middle East
In light of the escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran in the Middle East, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ramped up his diplomatic initiatives to maintain regional stability. On Monday, he engaged in a phone conversation with King Abdullah II of Jordan, expressing significant concern over the deteriorating situation in the area. PM Modi tagged King Abdullah II on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "I spoke with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan. I conveyed my deep concerns regarding the changing circumstances in the region. We reaffirm our commitment to peace, security, and the welfare of the Jordanian people. I also thanked him for looking after the Indian community during these challenging times."
Ongoing Communication with Gulf Leaders
As the conflict in the Middle East persists, PM Modi has maintained communication with various Gulf leaders, continuously assessing the situation. Earlier in the day, he also spoke with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia and King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, reiterating India's call for resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
Recent Discussions with Regional Leaders
On Sunday, PM Modi had a conversation with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday, condemning Iran's attacks on Gulf nations. Following their discussion, Netanyahu expressed gratitude to PM Modi for India's support, highlighting the admiration for Indian people in Israel.
Cabinet Committee on Security Meeting
On Sunday, PM Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), which included key figures such as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan. During the meeting, he emphasized the need to ensure the safety of Indians in the Middle East. The government later released an official statement expressing serious concern for the safety of the large Indian expatriate community in the region.
