PM Modi Highlights India's Low Carbon Emissions at International Conference

On September 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that India's per capita carbon emissions are significantly lower than the global average, a fact he highlighted at an international conference focused on environmental and climate issues.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the event titled 'The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics', which aims to address pressing environmental challenges and explore judicial responses. He also introduced the NGT Mobile App during the conference.
During his address, PM Modi remarked, "India has historically guided the world on environmental matters. Building on this legacy and our rich cultural heritage, we are now offering solutions to contemporary climate issues while urging collective action from all nations."
This two-day conference, hosted by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in Delhi, features distinguished judges and legal representatives from 17 countries, engaging in discussions about policy gaps and ways to enhance environmental governance.
PM Modi expressed his satisfaction with the NGT's efforts in advancing this mission.
He pointed out that the burden of carbon emissions has been unjustly placed on developing nations, stating, "The reality is that India's per capita carbon emissions are less than half of the global average, while developed countries emit six times more carbon than India. We assert this fact on international platforms, showcasing our traditions and strengths to the world."
He reiterated that the historical narrative has unfairly blamed developing countries for carbon emissions.
"Even today, India's per capita carbon emissions remain below the global average. In contrast, developed nations have emissions that are six times higher than ours. We present this truth confidently on global stages. I urge every Indian to embody this strength and confidence," he added.
PM Modi highlighted India's enduring traditions and inherent strengths, referencing the launch of the book 'Convenient Action: Continuity for Change' during COP21 in Paris.
"By collaborating with the global community, we are setting new standards for environmental protection," he concluded.
