Ethanol Blending: A Game Changer for Energy Security

In light of the ongoing conflicts in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized the significance of ethanol blending for India's energy security. He stated that the incorporation of ethanol in petrol has enabled India to reduce its crude oil imports by 4.5 crore barrels, leading to substantial savings in the country's foreign exchange reserves.

Discussion on Energy Crisis During Jewar Airport Inauguration

During the inauguration of the Jewar Airport in Noida on Saturday, the Prime Minister elaborated on the instability in energy supply caused by the ongoing conflicts in West Asia. He pointed out that without the blending of ethanol in petrol, India would have needed to import an additional 700 crore liters, equivalent to 4.5 crore barrels of crude oil annually.

Benefits for Farmers

PM Modi praised the contributions of Indian farmers during this global crisis. He noted that ethanol production is not only making the country self-reliant but also increasing farmers' incomes. To date, approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore in foreign currency has been saved through this initiative, providing significant relief to the nation's economy.

Achieving Goals Ahead of Schedule

India has successfully achieved its target of blending 20% ethanol in petrol (E20) ahead of the 2025 deadline. Currently, the country's ethanol production capacity has reached around 2,000 crore liters, with more than half being utilized for direct blending with petrol.

Impact of Global Conflicts on India

The Prime Minister reassured that despite rising crude oil prices due to the conflict between Iran, the US, and Israel, India has taken stringent measures to secure its supply. The government is making every effort to ensure that the burden of rising international prices does not fall on the general public, protecting them from inflation.
