Significant Meeting at the BRICS Summit
During the 17th BRICS summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a notable meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The two leaders exchanged warm greetings, including a handshake and a hug, at the Museum of Modern Art, where the summit was held.
Expressing gratitude, PM Modi took to social media to thank President Lula for hosting this year's summit in Rio de Janeiro, emphasizing that BRICS continues to be a vital platform for economic collaboration and global welfare.
Upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro, PM Modi received a heartfelt welcome from the Indian community, which included a performance of traditional bhajans.
The Indian diaspora also showcased a traditional dance inspired by 'Operation Sindoor', a military initiative aimed at addressing evolving asymmetric warfare tactics, particularly those targeting civilians.
The recent terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam in April 2025 highlighted the urgency of addressing such violence.
PM Modi expressed his pride in the Indian community's strong connection to their cultural roots, stating on social media, 'The vibrant welcome in Rio de Janeiro reflects their passion for Indian culture and commitment to India's progress.'
After arriving in Brazil, he shared his anticipation for the BRICS Summit and a subsequent state visit to Brasilia, expressing hopes for fruitful discussions.
At the summit, which runs from July 6 to 7, PM Modi is expected to address crucial topics including global peace, multilateral cooperation, ethical AI usage, climate change, global health, and economic challenges.
This visit marks the fourth stop on his five-nation tour.
