New Delhi, Oct 25: On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on citizens to prioritize locally made products while shopping for the festive season. He emphasized that supporting local artisans would enhance the "Vocal for Local" initiative and propel India towards greater self-sufficiency.

During the 139th episode of his monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat, Modi pointed out that Indian goods are gaining international recognition, mentioning that makhana from Bihar has reached Greece and arhar dal from Karnataka is being exported to the Maldives.

“I urge you to focus on products created by local artisans,” Modi stated, noting that festive purchases could uplift artisans' morale and encourage their craftsmanship.

The Prime Minister also stressed the significance of appealing packaging in promoting locally produced items. “Recognizing this, we are placing greater emphasis on packaging,” he remarked.

Modi highlighted initiatives aimed at preserving traditional skills and promoting sustainable practices throughout the nation.

He referenced the Kheti Virasat Mission in Punjab’s Malwa region, which advocates for organic farming and natural cotton cultivation through a project named "Nav-Trinjan." This initiative has also established a weaving school to teach traditional weaving techniques to younger generations, thereby safeguarding a vital aspect of the region's cultural heritage.

Additionally, Modi mentioned community-driven efforts to rejuvenate the Heval river in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal district.

He explained that the declining water levels in the river and the depletion of nearby natural water sources prompted local authorities and residents to take action.

These efforts included rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and extensive tree planting. Modi noted that these initiatives have successfully restored the river and revitalized numerous natural water sources.

Focusing on healthcare technology, the Prime Minister shared that the government's e-Sanjeevani telemedicine service has enabled nearly 50 crore consultations.

He regarded this statistic as a testament to the effectiveness of technology, the dedication of healthcare professionals, and the trust of the public.

This service, he explained, is crucial for providing medical consultations even in the most remote areas of the country.

Reflecting on the 12-year journey of Mann Ki Baat, Modi described the program as a “pilgrimage” that has allowed him to appreciate the efforts of citizens and acknowledge their contributions.

He recalled that the broadcast commenced on Vijayadashami 12 years ago and has continued without interruption, with listeners acting as both companions and guides.

Modi concluded by stating that Mann Ki Baat serves as a platform to honor the hard work, bravery, dedication, and spirit of service exhibited by ordinary Indians, celebrating the collective strength of the nation.
