Strengthening India-Jordan Economic Ties
Amman, Dec 16: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended an invitation to businesses in Jordan to collaborate with India, emphasizing the advantages of tapping into its vast consumer market of 1.4 billion people, robust manufacturing capabilities, and a stable, transparent policy framework.
During the India-Jordan Business Forum, PM Modi and King Abdullah II discussed the potential of merging Jordan's Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with India's economic strength to establish a significant economic corridor linking South Asia with West Asia and beyond.
Both leaders recognized the necessity of enhancing business connections between their nations and urged industry leaders to transform existing opportunities into tangible growth and prosperity.
Highlighting India's position as the fastest-growing major economy, which is on track to become the world's third-largest, the Prime Minister pointed out the vast business prospects available for Jordan and other global partners.
PM Modi proposed an ambitious goal of increasing bilateral trade with Jordan to $5 billion within the next five years. He emphasized the potential for both nations to collaborate as reliable supply chain partners globally, particularly in sectors such as Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), IT, Fintech, Health-tech, and Agri-tech, encouraging startups from both countries to work together in these domains.
He also noted that India's expertise in pharmaceuticals and medical devices, combined with Jordan's strategic location, could position Jordan as a key hub for West Asia and Africa in these industries.
Furthermore, PM Modi pointed out various sectors ripe for collaboration, including agriculture, cold chain logistics, food parks, fertilizers, infrastructure, automotive, green mobility, and cultural tourism. He advocated for enhanced cooperation in renewable energy, green financing, desalination, and water recycling as part of India's green initiatives.
