PM Modi Celebrates Sporting Milestones in Jammu and Kashmir Amidst Adversity
Celebrating Achievements in Jammu and Kashmir
New Delhi, August 31: During the 125th episode of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) for reaching two remarkable milestones despite the challenges posed by recent floods and heavy rainfall.
In his address, PM Modi remarked, “Despite the destruction caused by the floods and rains, J&K has achieved two noteworthy accomplishments that many may have overlooked. You will be pleased to learn about these successes.”
He emphasized that Pulwama recently experienced a historic event, as a record crowd gathered to witness the region's inaugural day-night cricket match.
“A record turnout was seen at the stadium in Pulwama for its first-ever day-night cricket match. This was once thought impossible, but my country is evolving,” the Prime Minister stated.
For the first time, the district hosted the Royal Premier League, a cricket tournament played under floodlights, symbolizing a new era of hope, peace, and advancement for the area.
Hundreds of fans came together to enjoy the event, transforming the venue into a lively celebration of sportsmanship and unity, especially significant for a district previously known for tragic events, including the Pulwama terror attack on February 14, 2019.
In his monthly radio broadcast, PM Modi also highlighted another significant event: the inaugural Khelo India Water Sports Festival, which took place at the scenic Dal Lake in Srinagar.
“The second noteworthy event was the first-ever ‘Khelo India Water Sports Festival’ held at Dal Lake in Srinagar,” he mentioned.
“What a wonderful location for such a festival! Its aim is to promote water sports in J&K, with over 800 athletes from across India participating, and the representation of women athletes was nearly equal to that of men,” he added.
Extending his congratulations to the medalists, the Prime Minister stated, “I want to commend all participants, especially Madhya Pradesh for securing the highest number of medals, followed by Haryana and Odisha.”
PM Modi noted that these initiatives signify the burgeoning sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir and the opportunities being created for young athletes in the region.
