PM Modi Meets Suryakumar Yadav and Family
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a warm meeting with former India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and his family in the capital. The Prime Minister shared joyful moments with Suryakumar's young children. In a post on his X account, PM Modi highlighted the spiritual essence of this year's Diwali celebrations, noting that the arrival of Lord Ram and the Saryu River has enriched the festive atmosphere. He expressed, "In the atmosphere of Diwali, the arrival of Ram and Saryu has taken place. This has made the environment of Diwali even more sacred and divine." दीपावली के माहौल में राम और सरयू का आगमन हुआ है। इससे दीपावली का वातावरण और भी पावन एवं दिव्य हो गया है। @surya_14kumar https://t.co/B6vwr35Iwm — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) November 6, 2026
Celebrating Cricket Triumph
During their meeting, Suryakumar Yadav proudly displayed his gold medal from India's victory in the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. Prime Minister Modi held the medal, marking a special moment that honored the team's remarkable achievement.
Suryakumar Yadav’s Career Milestones
Suryakumar Yadav has reached several significant milestones in his career, including being awarded the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year for both 2022 and 2023. He achieved the No. 1 ranking in the ICC Men's T20I Batting Rankings in October 2022 and recorded a career-high rating of 910 points in January 2023, one of the highest in the format's history.
Leadership and Squad Changes
He played a crucial role in leading India to victory at the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup and successfully defended the title in 2026, making India the first team to do so. Under his captaincy, India also won the T20 Asia Cup 2025 held in the UAE.
However, after India's triumph in the 2026 T20 World Cup, Suryakumar was excluded from the T20I squad for the upcoming tour of the UK, which includes matches against Ireland and England. Shreyas Iyer was appointed as the new T20I captain, following his impressive leadership with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL. Despite his successful captaincy record, Suryakumar's recent decline in batting performance was reportedly a key reason for his omission from the squad.
