Prime Minister Modi's Address on Middle East Tensions

Modi pointed out that the current state of affairs in Western Asia is troubling, and over the past few weeks, key officials have provided essential updates to Parliament on this matter. The crisis has persisted for more than three weeks, significantly impacting the global economy and people's lives, prompting calls for a swift resolution from the international community.
Challenges Posed by the Conflict
During his address, Modi noted that the war in the Middle East has presented unexpected challenges for India, affecting economic stability, national security, and humanitarian aspects. He mentioned that India has extensive trade relations with countries involved in the conflict, which is crucial for the supply of crude oil and gas. The Prime Minister stressed that a unified voice from Parliament should resonate globally, advocating for a prompt resolution to the conflict, which is adversely affecting the global economy.
Efforts to Assist Affected Indians
Modi reiterated that the safety of Indian citizens remains the government's top priority amidst the ongoing turmoil in Gulf nations. He revealed that over 300,000 Indians have returned from affected areas, including more than 1,000 individuals evacuated from Iran. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of the region, noting that nearly 10 million Indians reside and work in Gulf countries, contributing to commercial shipping and the workforce.
Ensuring Supply Stability
He further explained that the region is vital for India for various reasons, including the transportation of crude oil, gas, and fertilizers through the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping has become increasingly challenging. Modi assured that the government is making every effort to prevent supply disruptions and ensure citizens do not face inconveniences. He highlighted that India imports about 60% of its LPG needs and is prioritizing domestic production to maintain stability.
