PM Modi Accuses Congress of Ties with Pakistan Ahead of Assam Elections
Modi's Allegations Against Congress
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress party of having connections with Pakistan's ideologies, asserting that the opposition's stance on national security has repeatedly cost Pakistan dearly. Speaking at an election rally in Barpeta, Assam, ahead of the assembly elections on April 9, Modi claimed that during India's 'Operation Sindoor', Congress leaders had taken a pro-Pakistan position. He reiterated his criticism of the party's extensive record in defense and governance.
Impact on National Interests
Modi stated that such attitudes have historically harmed national interests, suggesting that Congress has encouraged Pakistan. He pointed out that during 'Operation Sindoor', Congress echoed the narratives propagated by Pakistan. The Prime Minister's remarks were made while rallying support for BJP candidates in the upcoming elections.
BJP's Commitment to Farmers
He emphasized that Congress never presents its report card to the public, while the BJP government transparently informs citizens about its contributions. Modi highlighted that in 2013, when Congress was in power, the minimum support price (MSP) for rice was merely ₹1,300 per quintal. Today, it stands at approximately ₹2,370 per quintal, with the Assam BJP government also increasing it. He noted that in the ten years prior to 2014, Congress provided rice farmers with only ₹4 lakh crore in MSP, whereas the BJP government has allocated ₹16 lakh crore in the last ten years.
Empowering Women in Governance
Modi stressed the importance of women's roles in both the assembly and parliament for building a developed India. He mentioned the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which ensures 33% reservation for women, a right that the country's daughters have awaited for 40 years. He called for amendments to the law to grant these rights starting from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, announcing a special parliamentary session from April 16 to discuss this with all political parties.
Congress's Historical Injustices
The Prime Minister accused Congress of committing significant injustices against tribal communities during its 60-65 years of rule, leading to extreme poverty and violence in tribal areas. He claimed that Congress has supported illegal immigrants and opposed actions against encroachments, proposing laws that would criminalize the mere mention of 'immigrants'. Modi warned that such laws would threaten the indigenous populations of Assam, as Congress leaders frequently discuss these anti-Assam laws in their speeches.
