On Monday, India confirmed its third medal in Kurash at the Asian Games, thanks to Pincky Balhara's advancement to the women's 78 kg semifinals in Aichi-Nagoya. Pincky triumphed over South Korea's Lim Garam with a decisive 3-0 victory in the quarterfinals, securing a medal for India, as reported by ESPN. Previously, Balhara earned a silver medal at the 2018 Asian Games but faced elimination in the quarterfinals during the 2022 event in Hangzhou. Her recent win has ensured another medal for India in this discipline.

Archery: Ganesh Advances to Quarterfinals

In another highlight, Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru of India narrowly defeated his fellow countryman Sahil Jadhav with a score of 149-148 in the men's compound archery round of 16 at the Asian Games on Monday, moving into the quarterfinals. The match was intensely competitive, showcasing both archers' precision, but Ganesh managed to pull ahead in the final moments, according to ESPN.

Earlier, Ganesh had overcome Indonesia's Sostar Andaru Rinaldi with a score of 144-142 in the round of 32. He will now face Chen Chieh-lun from Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals scheduled for October 1.

Jadhav also had a strong start, defeating Mongolia's Jamiyangombo Purevdorj 149-137 in the round of 32 before being eliminated by Ganesh. Consequently, Ganesh is now the sole Indian competitor left in the men's individual compound category.

India's archery team has performed well overall, with all five teams competing on Sunday advancing to the semifinals. This includes the men's and women's recurve teams, as well as the mixed recurve team, alongside the men's and women's compound teams, all securing spots in the semifinals. The quarterfinals for the compound individual events will continue on October 1.

On Day 9 of the Games, Sivaraj Babu from India exited the men's shortboard surfing competition after a loss to the Philippines' Alciso Jayuard, with a score of 7.83-11.50 in Round 3.

Additionally, India's men's cricket team faced Afghanistan in the quarterfinals on Monday. As defending champions, they entered the knockout stage directly, aiming to retain the gold medal they secured at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.
