Phoebe Litchfield's Anticipated Return

Shelley Nitschke, the head coach of the Australian women's cricket team, has indicated that star batter Phoebe Litchfield may return from her injury during the final group-stage match against India at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in London this Sunday.

Litchfield suffered a calf injury while delivering a match-winning performance against South Africa in Manchester earlier in the tournament. Consequently, she has been sidelined for Australia's last three matches, observing as the defending champions maintained their unbeaten streak.

Australia's Selection Challenge

"I believe Pheebs (Litchfield) is progressing well and should be ready for the India match," Nitschke shared with cricket.com.au on Wednesday, as reported by ICC. "This will create a tough decision for us—Pheebs is expected to reclaim the No.3 batting position, which means we need to rethink our lineup and structure. Someone will have to make way for her," the coach elaborated.

It appears that young pacer Lucy Hamilton might be the one to miss out on Litchfield's return. Additionally, Nitschke mentioned that all-rounder Grace Harris could also be considered for a comeback due to her experience at Lord's. "She (Harris) has played extensively at Lord's with the London Spirit, making her a strong candidate as well," Nitschke noted. "She has faced some unfortunate circumstances, so we have several options to consider."

Importance of the Upcoming Match

A victory against the Indian team will secure Australia's position at the top of their group, allowing them to enter the semi-finals without a loss. Conversely, even a defeat might still enable them to advance to the knockout stages.

India's Key Match Against Bangladesh

On a parallel note, the Indian team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, is set to face the Bangladesh Women in a pivotal Group A match in the ongoing tournament. This highly anticipated game will take place at Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday.
