Phil Salt Returns to UK for Injury Scans, Impacting RCB's IPL Campaign
Phil Salt's Injury Update
Phil Salt, the opener for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has returned to the UK to undergo scans for a finger injury. This injury has sidelined him for the last three matches of the IPL 2026 season, as reported by a sports news outlet on Monday. His absence will allow Jacob Bethell to continue his role at the top of the batting lineup for the defending champions.
Injury Details
While the specifics of Salt's injury have not been officially revealed by RCB, sources indicate that he injured a finger on his left hand. This occurred during a diving attempt to stop a ball near the deep backward square leg boundary in the second innings of their match against Delhi Capitals on April 18.
Before this injury, Salt had an impressive season, amassing 202 runs in six innings with a striking rate of 168.33, helping RCB secure aggressive starts.
Optimism for a Quick Recovery
Despite the setback, both Salt and RCB are hopeful that he will recover swiftly and return to India later this month. The team is focused on defending their IPL title, which they won for the first time last season.
This injury comes at a challenging time for Salt, who had recently expressed his appreciation for the supportive environment fostered by director of cricket Mo Bobat, head coach Andy Flower, and batting mentor Dinesh Karthik. He had regained his form in the IPL following a less than stellar performance in the T20 World Cup with England.
Currently, RCB, under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, is enjoying a six-day break after their defeat to the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. Several players have taken a brief trip to the Maldives before their upcoming match against the Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday.
