PETA Urges Rajasthan CM to Ban Elephant Rides in Jaipur
Call to End Elephant Rides
The non-profit organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has made a formal request to Rajasthan's Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, urging him to prohibit elephant rides at the Amer Fort and Elephant Village in Jaipur.
PETA has also suggested relocating all elephants to sanctuaries for their safety and well-being.
A representative from the organization expressed concerns following a recent incident where two elephants engaged in a fight, highlighting the risks associated with such activities.
Additionally, there have been ongoing violations of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, raising further alarm. Shourya Agarwal, an Advocacy Associate with PETA India, emphasized that such incidents serve as a stark reminder of the immense suffering endured by elephants forced into rides.
