Passengers Targeted in Shocking Train Heist on Duronto Express

Daring Robbery on New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Train
Patna: In a distressing event, passengers aboard the New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Duronto Express experienced a robbery near Gaya, Bihar, during the early hours of Friday. An official from the Gaya Government Railway Police (GRP) reported that a group of unidentified thieves targeted at least five train coaches, making off with bags, mobile devices, laptops, and other personal items. The robbers activated the emergency chain between Paraiya and Kastha stations on the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU)-Gaya railway line around 2 AM, halting the train for over thirty minutes before fleeing into the night.
Numerous passengers reported the theft of purses, mobile phones, and laptops, with at least 12 individuals affected, leading to widespread panic. Witnesses noted that suspicious individuals were seen in the vicinity when the train departed from DDU railway station the previous night. One passenger expressed concern, stating, “It’s alarming that there were no railway protection force (RPF) personnel patrolling the coaches to ensure passenger safety.” This incident incited anger among passengers, who protested at Gaya Railway Station, demanding the return of their stolen belongings. In response, railway police and local authorities from Paraiya quickly arrived to initiate an investigation.
A special team, led by the Railway DSP, has been established to locate the perpetrators. Initial investigations revealed several discarded bags near the railway tracks, suggesting that the thieves had emptied them before abandoning them. Authorities suspect that a well-organized gang may be behind this incident. A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the Gaya GRP police station concerning the theft. Interestingly, a similar robbery occurred two months prior on the same Duronto Express near Tankuppa station on the Gaya-Koderma railway line.
