Amaravati, May 15: A private travel bus carrying 36 passengers narrowly avoided disaster when it caught fire in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh early on Friday morning.
The incident took place on Bheemavaram Adda Road in the Ulavapadu mandal, with authorities confirming that there were no injuries reported.
The bus, operated by Kaveri Travels, was en route from Hyderabad to Tirupati when the driver detected smoke coming from the engine. Acting quickly, he stopped the bus and warned the passengers.
Thanks to the driver's swift actions, all passengers were able to evacuate the bus before flames consumed the vehicle. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief once they were safely off the bus.
Firefighters arrived promptly and extinguished the blaze, but the bus was completely destroyed.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Recent months have seen a troubling trend of bus fires in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
On April 27, a private bus was destroyed by fire in Telangana's Medak district, although no passengers were aboard at the time. The driver and another individual managed to escape after noticing the flames.
Tragically, on March 26, at least 14 individuals lost their lives, and 15 others were injured when a private bus caught fire following a collision with a tipper truck in Markapuram district, Andhra Pradesh. The accident occurred near Rayavaram, resulting in both vehicles being completely engulfed in flames.
In another horrific incident on October 24, 2025, 19 people died when a bus caught fire after running over a motorbike that had been left on the road following an earlier accident near Kurnool town. The bus was transporting 46 passengers from Hyderabad to Bengaluru at the time.
Additionally, on November 3, 2025, a collision between a bus and a truck in Rangareddy district, Telangana, resulted in 19 fatalities and left 24 others injured. The truck, loaded with gravel, collided with a bus traveling in the opposite direction.
