Awana Promotes Daily Fitness and Warns Against Substance Abuse
Former Indian cricketer Parvinder Awana took part in the 'Sundays on Cycle' event as part of the Fit India Movement, emphasizing the necessity of incorporating fitness into daily routines while urging young people to avoid substance abuse.
During the event, Awana shared with reporters that the campaign has been ongoing for a significant period and has provided a rewarding experience. He noted, "This initiative has been running for quite a while, and it has been a wonderful experience... Fitness is indeed being promoted through this effort. As an athlete, I want to stress the importance of making fitness a daily practice."
The ex-speedster elaborated that the Fit India campaign is designed to raise awareness among youth and guide them towards healthier lifestyles. He stated, "The 'Fit India' initiative aims to enlighten the youth and steer them away from substance abuse; the more we engage in training, the healthier we remain, and the healthier we are, the better our mental decision-making becomes."
Mandaviya Joins Indian Diaspora to Support Asian Games Athletes
In a related event, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya participated in a special 'Sundays on Cycle' gathering with members of the Indian diaspora in Japan, aimed at cheering on the Indian team for the upcoming Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya.
Speaking to reporters, Mandaviya commended the Indian community in Japan for organizing the 'Sundays on Cycle' event to uplift and motivate Indian athletes competing in the Asian Games. He expressed optimism about the athletes' performances, stating, "The Asian Games are being held in Nagoya, Japan, and our athletes are participating. To encourage and uplift their spirits, the Indian diaspora organized a cycling event on Sunday to support India. I am confident that our athletes will excel and bring honor to the nation."
Overview of 'Sundays on Cycle'
The Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in partnership with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Raahgiri Foundation, and MY Bharat. This cycling initiative takes place simultaneously across all States and Union Territories, including SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India Centres (KICs). Additionally, over 6000 NAMO Fit India clubs conduct this cycling initiative nationwide every week.
