Parul's Remarkable Achievement

Indian athlete Parul Chaudhary secured her second bronze medal within three days at the Asian Games 2026 held in Aichi-Nagoya. She completed the women's 5000m race on Monday with a time of 15:14.61, as reported by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).


A Thrilling Finish

Parul demonstrated her determination by finishing just 1.46 seconds behind Japan's Nozomi Tanaka, who took the silver medal with a time of 15:11.65. The gold medal was claimed by Bahrain's Winfred Yavi, who clocked in at 15:10.18.


Back-to-Back Medals

This bronze in the 5000m follows her earlier success in the women's 3000m steeplechase, where she also secured third place with a time of 9:08.67, setting a new national record.


Challenging Competition Schedule

Parul's journey in Aichi-Nagoya began on September 26 with the women's 1500m final, where she finished fourth with a time of 4:09.46. She then earned a bronze in the 3000m steeplechase on September 27, before adding another bronze in the 5000m on Monday. Competing in three finals over three consecutive days, she returned to the podium twice and placed fourth in the 1500m.


India's Growing Medal Count

With her latest bronze, India's athletics medal tally at the Asian Games has increased to 42, which includes four gold, 18 silver, and 20 bronze medals. Currently, India ranks 12th in the overall medal standings, with athletics contributing 16 of these medals.

Earlier on the same day, Vithya Ramraj achieved a bronze in the women's 400m hurdles, setting a personal best of 54.75 seconds and breaking the national record she previously shared with PT Usha. Additionally, Gulveer Singh earned his second silver medal of the Games, finishing second in the men's 1500m with a personal best of 3:36.72, just behind Japan's Kazuto Iizawa, who set a new Games record.
