Collaboration for Sustainable Energy

The three organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote sustainable development and clean energy in the state,

Guwahati, July 6: North East Dairy and Foods Ltd (NEDFL), known for its Purabi brand, announced a collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Suzuki R&D Centre India (SRDI) to set up a compressed biogas facility in Assam.

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) marks a commitment to advancing sustainable development and clean energy initiatives in the region, as stated by NEDFL.

According to the agreement, the NDDB will offer technical and institutional support, while NEDFL will oversee the project's execution, manage the CBG plant, and handle the marketing of the compressed biogas and organic fertilizers produced.

Suzuki R&D Centre India will contribute financially to the project and will benefit from carbon credits linked to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

This initiative aims to transform agricultural and dairy waste into compressed biogas, a renewable energy source, and organic fertilizer, representing a crucial advancement towards establishing a circular economy in Assam, as per the statement.

Compressed biogas serves as a viable alternative to traditional fossil fuels for vehicles and industrial uses, contributing to lower carbon emissions.

NEDFL anticipates that this project will enhance scientific waste management, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, bolster rural economies, and promote cleaner transportation options.

Additionally, the project is expected to provide farmers with a new income stream by adding value to agricultural and dairy waste. The organic fertilizer produced will support sustainable farming methods and improve soil health.

NDDB chairman Meenesh Shah highlighted that Assam is recognized for its natural agricultural practices.

“This initiative will further advance the state towards sustainable organic agriculture while enhancing income from dairy farming, thus contributing to a circular economy,” Shah remarked.

He emphasized that the project not only offers socio-economic advantages but also aligns with the region's dedication to environmentally sustainable practices.

NEDFL MD SB Bose expressed that Purabi Dairy is dedicated to making this project a landmark achievement in the pursuit of a cleaner and greener future.

Toshihiro Suzuki, representative director and president of Suzuki Motor Corporation, noted that the company is involved in nine biogas plant projects across India, with two already operational in Banaskantha, Gujarat.
