Meeting on India-Sri Lanka Relations
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs is scheduled to convene on Tuesday to gather insights from representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs regarding "India-Sri Lanka Relations and the Path Forward." According to the agenda released for the committee, this meeting will take place today at the Extension Building of the Parliament House Annex in the national capital. The focus of the discussion will be on the perspectives and recommendations from the Ministry regarding the future of relations between India and Sri Lanka. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor serves as the chairperson of the External Affairs Committee. Last month, under Tharoor's leadership, the committee visited Jammu as part of its ongoing activities in the Union Territory.

During their visit, the committee and its members engaged in discussions with officials from the Regional Passport Office and met with representatives from the Ministry of External Affairs who had traveled from Delhi. Speaking to reporters afterward, Tharoor praised the role of the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in national security, emphasizing that every citizen should have the opportunity to witness their work in border areas. He stated, "The contributions of BSF personnel in keeping our country safe are truly commendable. I believe everyone should see this for themselves. Every Indian citizen should take the chance to visit the border and observe the work of our soldiers. It was a remarkable experience." He also highlighted the need to promote tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that normalcy and smooth operations should be restored in the region. The committee's visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh took place from June 22 to 25.

The purpose of this study visit was to provide the parliamentary panel members with firsthand knowledge of strategic and security-related issues in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, particularly in the context of India's relations with China and Pakistan.
