Parliament Adjourned Due to Protests
On Tuesday, the lower house of Parliament was suspended until 2 PM following persistent chanting by opposition MPs during question hour. Krishna Prasad Teneti, who presided over the Lok Sabha, urged members of the India Block to refrain from protests within the chamber. Amid ongoing demonstrations, Teneti announced the adjournment of the house until 2 PM. The session, which commenced at 11 AM, was initially suspended at 11:08 AM due to the opposition's outcry against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government.
Legislative Proposals and Discussions
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced a motion for the house to agree on the 14th report of the Business Advisory Committee presented on February 2. This motion was passed by voice vote. The proceedings began with a tribute to Congress leader Surup Singh Hiraya Naik, who passed away in December 2025. Earlier today, Congress MP K.C. Venugopal submitted a motion for adjournment to discuss the India-US trade agreement, claiming it would have "adverse effects" on Indian industries and farmers.
Details of the India-US Trade Agreement
Under the India-US trade agreement, tariffs on Indian goods in the US have been reduced to 18 percent, while Washington asserts that this deal will facilitate increased agricultural exports to New Delhi. In his adjournment motion, Venugopal pointed out that the details of the agreement have not been presented before Parliament. Prior to the session, BJP workers greeted Prime Minister Modi with chants of "Jai Modi," "Vande Mataram," and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" as he attended an NDA parliamentary meeting where the trade agreement with US President Donald Trump was discussed.
Ongoing Budget Session Discussions
During the ongoing budget session in both houses of Parliament on Tuesday, discussions on the 'Thank You Motion' regarding the President's address will continue. In the Lok Sabha, this motion was introduced by Sarbananda Sonowal and supported by Tejasvi Surya. In the upper house, BJP MP Sadanand Master presented the thank you motion, delivering an emotional speech while placing his prosthetic limbs on the bench. This motion is a response to the address delivered by President Droupadi Murmu during the joint session at the start of the budget session on January 28.
