Paralympic Champion Sumit Antil Alleges Abuse by Coach, Supported by Neeraj Chopra
Serious Allegations Against Coach
Sumit Antil, a two-time Paralympic medalist, has made grave accusations of mental harassment and the frequent use of offensive language by his javelin coach, Naval Singh. Notably, Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has expressed his support for Antil's complaint, which has been submitted to the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
SAI Acknowledges the Complaint
Sources indicate that the Sports Authority of India has confirmed the receipt of Antil's complaint and is addressing the issue with the relevant federation. However, SAI clarified that Naval Singh is not an employee of theirs; he is currently associated with the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) as part of the National Coaching Camp.
"A complaint has been lodged by Sumit Antil, who has won a Paralympic Gold Medal, alleging verbal abuse from Coach Naval Singh. This complaint has garnered support from other athletes, including Neeraj Chopra," stated a source from SAI.
"The coach in question is not affiliated with SAI and is training another prominent athlete under the National Coaching Camp organized by AFI. The complaint has been formally received, and the federation is addressing the matter accordingly," the source added.
Vinesh Phogat Voices Concern
Prominent Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has also condemned the alleged mental harassment faced by Sumit Antil at the hands of Coach Naval Singh. She expressed her dismay over the ongoing disrespect towards medal-winning athletes, while those in positions of authority choose to remain silent.
In a post on X, Phogat remarked, "The dignity of those who bring medals for the country will be trampled every time, and the responsible people will remain silent as always. This is the new India, isn't it?"
