Amir Hussain Lone, a para-cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir who tragically lost both arms, has received an invitation to attend President Droupadi Murmu's 'At Home' Reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi on August 15. This invitation is part of the celebrations for India's 80th Independence Day and represents a significant achievement for Amir, who has become an inspiration through his relentless pursuit of cricket despite his challenges.

A Dream Come True

In an interview, Amir expressed his disbelief at the opportunity to meet President Murmu on such a momentous occasion. He stated, "I never imagined that I would have the chance to meet President Droupadi Murmu on a day as special as August 15. It is a great honor to be invited on this significant occasion."

He also shared the joy this invitation has brought to his family and community, saying, "Since receiving the invitation, my family and villagers have been celebrating and congratulating me, and everyone is filled with happiness."

Celebrating Local Talent

Amir highlighted the growing sports talent in Jammu and Kashmir, mentioning the recent selection of speedster Auqib Nabi for the Test series against Sri Lanka. He remarked, "The emergence of players from our region on larger platforms is a source of pride for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Our star Auqib Nabi's selection for the Test series against India is a significant achievement for our valley, showcasing the talent that is bringing honor to both the country and our state."

An Inspirational Journey

Amir's invitation to this prestigious event is viewed as a recognition of his remarkable journey and contributions to para sports, which have brought pride to Jammu and Kashmir and the nation. He has previously been honored for his determination and sporting achievements.

Last year, Amir, who leads the Jammu and Kashmir Para cricket team, was recognized by the Ludhiana Bar Association, where he shared his experiences and the challenges he faced after losing both arms at the age of eight.

He recounted the difficult times following the incident but found strength and purpose in cricket. Despite the challenges, he pursued his passion for the sport, learning to play using his feet, which was initially a daunting task, especially for bowling and throwing.

Chetan Verma, President of the Ludhiana Bar Association, expressed his admiration for Amir's hard work, determination, and courage during their meeting.

Amir has been actively playing professional cricket since 2013, after a teacher recognized his talent and introduced him to Para Cricket.
