In Dubai, Pakistan's bowlers showcased exceptional skill, leading their team to a convincing victory in their first match of the Asia Cup on Tuesday. Muneeba's Key Contribution
Winning the toss, Fatima Sana chose to bat first. However, Thipatcha Putthawong made an immediate impact with her left-arm spin, claiming two wickets in her opening over, leaving Pakistan struggling at 7/2.
This achievement allowed Putthawong to surpass Deepti Sharma in the rankings for the most wickets taken in women's T20Is, just days after Sharma had taken the lead, according to ICC statistics.
Shawaal Zulfiqar (1) and Gull Feroza (0) fell victim to her bowling, and Phannita Maya also dismissed Ayesha Zafar (9).
Muneeba Ali and Sadaf Shamas managed to stabilize the innings, bringing Pakistan to 60/3 by the halfway point.
As Pakistan appeared to regain their footing, Suleeporn Laomi struck twice in the 13th over, dismissing Shamas (20) and Fatima Sana (0).
Muneeba's impressive half-century brought Pakistan closer to a respectable total, but she was eventually out for 54 by Laomi.
Late contributions from Umm-e-Hani and Tuba Hassan helped the team approach a run-a-ball total.
For Thailand, Putthawong (3/18) and Laomi (3/14) were the standout bowlers.
Bowlers Secure Victory
Thailand needed 120 runs to win but faced early setbacks as Sadia Iqbal, ranked ninth among T20I bowlers, took two wickets, disrupting their innings.
Natthakan Chantham partnered with captain Naruemol Chaiwai, and while they managed to halt the wicket loss, their scoring rate remained low.
When Chantham was dismissed by Nashra Sundhu at the halfway mark, Thailand's required run rate was nearly eight-and-a-half on a sluggish pitch.
By the time Tuba Hassan took out Chaiwai (17), Thailand was already lagging behind the required pace.
Pakistan's spinners effectively contained Thailand's batting, leading to a comfortable 35-run victory.
In upcoming matches, Indonesia will face Sri Lanka in Group B of the Asia Cup tomorrow, while India will take on Hong Kong in Group A the following day.
