Just days after India targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor, the neighboring country has retaliated by attacking civilian areas and infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. Colonel Sofia Qureshi reported on Saturday that Pakistan is deploying troops to forward positions with aggressive intentions to escalate tensions. In response to Pakistan's unprovoked assaults, the district administration in Pathankot has ordered all hotels to close and asked guests to vacate.
Concerns Over Civilian Aircraft Misuse
Colonel Sofia Qureshi also expressed concern over the misuse of international air routes by Pakistan, particularly with civilian flights departing from Lahore, which are being used to conceal their activities. This tactic has compelled the Indian air defense system to operate with great patience while ensuring civilian safety. During a joint media briefing, officials from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Army discussed the casualties among Indian civilians due to Pakistan's indiscriminate shelling, which involved heavy artillery, drones, and mortars. Among the deceased was Raj Kumar Thappa, a senior official from the Jammu and Kashmir government and additional district development commissioner in Rajouri.
Pakistan's Provocative Actions Under Scrutiny
Indian officials at the media conference characterized Pakistan's recent actions, particularly attempts to target airbase stations in Punjab over the past three days, as "provocative and militant." Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, alongside Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and Colonel Sofia Qureshi, revealed that Pakistan has launched attacks at 26 locations within India and has begun mobilizing its troops towards forward positions.
