Pakistani Drone Drops Arms Near Jammu Border: Security Forces Intervene
Drone-Dropped Arms Seized by Security Forces
Jammu: On Saturday, security personnel successfully intercepted an arms and ammunition shipment that was dropped by a drone from Pakistan near the international border in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, according to official reports.
The operation thwarted an attempt by terror operatives across the border who aimed to supply weapons to local terrorists via a drone.
Officials stated, "During routine surveillance and area monitoring in the Regal forward zone near the border, security forces discovered suspicious items. A detailed search operation was initiated, resulting in the recovery of the arms consignment."
The seized items included two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition, and a grenade. Authorities suspect that these weapons were intended for use in destabilizing activities within the border region. The prompt detection and recovery of these arms averted a significant security risk.
The use of drones for smuggling weapons and contraband has become a persistent issue for security forces operating along the international border and the line of control in Jammu and Kashmir.
A case has been filed, and investigations are underway to identify the intended recipients and to trace the drone's launch point and route.
In response to this incident, security measures in the border area have been intensified, with enhanced surveillance protocols established to prevent similar occurrences. Officials emphasized that effective ground patrols and technical monitoring are vital in countering drone-related infiltration and smuggling activities.
Jammu and Kashmir features a 740 km long line of control that runs through the Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts, as well as Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of the Jammu district. The army is responsible for guarding this area, while the Border Security Force (BSF) oversees the 240 km-long international border in Samba, Kathua, and Jammu districts.
