In a bid to enhance security, Pakistan has closed schools and government offices in Islamabad for two days. This decision aims to minimize public movement as the country prepares to host discussions between US and Iranian officials later this week. The ceasefire, which was announced on Tuesday, is currently under threat. This move follows violent protests in March, where Shiite groups demonstrated against US and Israeli actions in Iran, resulting in over two dozen fatalities nationwide. In Karachi, 12 individuals lost their lives when demonstrators attacked the US consulate, attempting to set it ablaze.

Comprehensive Restrictions in the Capital

Authorities in Islamabad have implemented extensive restrictions, including the closure of schools and government offices. Key roads linking Islamabad to Rawalpindi have been blocked, with shipping containers strategically placed to control access to sensitive areas.

Increased Security Presence in Islamabad

Security measures have been significantly heightened in Islamabad, with hundreds of additional police and paramilitary personnel deployed. The Red Zone, which is a fortified area housing the president, prime minister’s office, Foreign Ministry, and various embassies, has been sealed off. A hotel nearby, designated for the delegations, is also under strict security surveillance.

Upcoming US-Iran Talks: What to Anticipate?

The upcoming talks are viewed as a crucial diplomatic opportunity to address ongoing conflicts in the region. Key discussion points will include Iran's uranium enrichment and its control over the Strait of Hormuz, among other contentious issues that have previously stalled negotiations. The White House has labeled the ten points proposed by Iran as misleading. The Iranian delegation is expected to arrive in Islamabad on Thursday night, as confirmed by Iranian ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam, who stated, "Iranian delegation arrives tonight in Islamabad for serious talks based on 10 points proposed by Iran."
