Pakistan Cricket Board Plans Leadership Changes Ahead of World Test Championship
Leadership Transition in Pakistan Cricket
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to make significant changes in its leadership structure, potentially replacing Shan Masood as the Test captain. Salman Ali Agha is being considered for the role of all-format captain under the guidance of coach Mike Hesson. Agha has already been at the helm for the white-ball formats, and the board aims to expand his responsibilities.
As the Eid holidays approach, the PCB plans to announce the formation of an "observatory" committee, which will oversee the national team's developments and report directly to the board's chairman.
Sarfaraz Ahmed and Sikander Bakht to Join New Committee
Former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and ex-pacer Sikander Bakht have been approached by the PCB to take on roles within this new committee. A source familiar with the situation disclosed,
"The two were informed about the decision to form the observatory committee and offered positions on it. Some other players will also be on this committee."
The PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, is reportedly in discussions with his close advisors, including the newly appointed white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, regarding a potential overhaul of the national selection committee's duties. The source mentioned,
"Either there will be changes in the current selection committee which would continue to work with the Pakistan team management or a new selection set-up would be announced with prime focus on looking and finding talent from domestic and age group cricket."
Additionally, Mohsin Naqvi aims to ensure that the right individuals are placed in suitable positions throughout the Pakistan cricket framework.
Currently, Pakistan's Test cricket team is still in search of a new red-ball coach as they prepare to face South Africa later this year, marking the start of the World Test Championship Cycle for 2025-27. It is noteworthy that the team is scheduled to play only five Test matches this year.
