Diplomatic Talks Between Pakistan and Iran
According to the Prime Minister's Office of Pakistan, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif engaged in discussions for over an hour regarding ongoing regional hostilities and efforts to restore peace. As reported by a news agency, Pezeshkian emphasized the necessity of mutual trust for meaningful dialogue and appreciated Islamabad's constructive role in promoting peace. In response, Sharif informed him about Pakistan's diplomatic initiatives with the USA and Gulf countries aimed at reducing tensions. Earlier, the Pakistani government announced that it would host foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt for talks on the Middle East conflict from March 29 to 30.
As per an official statement released by Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on his social media account, during their two-day visit, these foreign ministers will also meet with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The statement mentioned that at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, His Excellency Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Turkey's Foreign Minister His Excellency Hakan Fidan, and Egypt's Foreign Minister His Excellency Dr. Badr Abdelattty will visit Islamabad on March 29-30, 2026. However, there has been no news regarding the participation of the United States or Iran in this summit.
During this visit, the foreign ministers will engage in extensive discussions on various issues, including efforts to alleviate regional tensions. The statement further indicated that the visitors would also meet with the Prime Minister. This news about the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Egypt follows Pakistan's expression of interest in hosting peace talks between Iran, the USA, and Israel on March 24. The Prime Minister tweeted that Islamabad is ready to host discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. In his tweet, Sharif stated that Pakistan welcomes ongoing dialogue efforts to end the war in the Middle East and fully supports them, which is in the interest of peace and stability in the region and beyond. Under the agreement between the USA and Iran, Pakistan feels honored and prepared to facilitate meaningful and decisive talks for a comprehensive resolution of the ongoing conflicts.
