P T Usha Unveils Fun Run and Tree Plantation for Olympic Day Celebrations
Significance of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Fun Run
On Thursday, P T Usha, the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), emphasized the importance of the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Fun Run. She also detailed a nationwide tree plantation initiative that will coincide with Olympic Day celebrations later this month.
Speaking to the press in Thiruvananthapuram, Usha explained that Olympic Day, celebrated every year on June 23, aims to promote the fundamental values of the Olympic movement while inspiring individuals to lead healthier and more active lives. "Olympic Day marks the inception of the modern Olympic movement, promoting excellence, friendship, and respect, and encouraging people of all ages to engage in sports and healthy living," she stated.
Details of the Fun Run and Tree Plantation Campaign
Usha mentioned that in addition to the annual global Olympic Run, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is organizing a special Fun Run to raise awareness about the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. "This year, the OCA is hosting a Fun Run specifically for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games to enhance public awareness. This event will take place in Trivandrum, and all members of the Indian Olympic Association will participate," she added.
Furthermore, Usha announced an extensive environmental campaign that will take place alongside Olympic Day celebrations. The IOA plans to plant 2,036 trees nationwide, symbolizing the year of the next Asian Games. "On June 23, we will initiate a tree plantation drive, planting 2,036 trees across all states, covering every district, university, school, municipality, corporation, and panchayat. This is our green initiative for the day," she explained.
The Fun Run and tree plantation efforts are part of a broader strategy to engage the public and raise awareness ahead of the 2026 Asian Games, which will occur in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4. This will mark India's 20th participation in this continental multi-sport event.
