Over 5,300 Bottles of Fake Cough Syrup Seized in Lucknow
Major Drug Bust in Lucknow
The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has apprehended an individual following the discovery of more than 5,300 bottles of counterfeit cough syrup in a residence in Lucknow. A senior official revealed that the syrup contained a mixture of banned narcotic substances, and the bottles were falsely labeled to resemble products from reputable pharmaceutical companies.
Details of the Operation
According to Narcotics Deputy Commissioner Praveen Bali, a raid was conducted on Thursday based on a tip-off, leading to the recovery of 5,353 bottles of cough syrup. The syrup was found to be adulterated with narcotics such as 'Alprazolam' and 'Clonazepam', and bore counterfeit labels of well-known companies.
Legal Actions Taken
The official noted that the accused lacked any legal documentation or license to possess or sell such drugs. Consequently, the entire batch was confiscated under the NDPS Act of 1985, and the individual was arrested. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the network involved in this illegal drug trade.
