Significant Growth in Women Entrepreneurship

New Delhi, March 9: As of February 28, 2026, the government has reported that over 3.07 crore enterprises led by women have been registered on the Udyam platforms.

In response to a query in the Rajya Sabha, Shobha Karandlaje, the Minister of State for MSME, highlighted the various initiatives the government has undertaken to bolster women entrepreneurs and enhance their involvement in the MSME sector.

According to the data from the Udyam Registration Portal (URP) and Udyam Assist Platform, the total count of registered women-led enterprises stands at 3,07,42,621 as of the end of February 2026.

A notable initiative is the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Micro and Small Enterprises, which is managed through the Credit Guarantee Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises.

This scheme allows banks and financial institutions to provide loans without requiring collateral or third-party guarantees.

Women-led enterprises benefit from an enhanced credit guarantee coverage of up to 90%, compared to 75% for other businesses, along with a 10% reduction in the guarantee fee.

Additionally, the government is facilitating skill development and entrepreneurship support through the PM Vishwakarma Scheme.

This program provides both basic and advanced training for artisans and craftspeople, along with stipend assistance.

The training encompasses entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and digital literacy.

Participants are also instructed on the use of modern tools and equipment pertinent to their trades.

Moreover, the scheme aids in marketing by assisting artisans in listing their products on e-commerce platforms and enhancing branding and promotion efforts.

Capacity-building and digital marketing training are also part of the Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI).

This cluster-based initiative offers skill development, awareness sessions, and technical training throughout the value chain.

It also supports activities such as product design and development, exposure visits, participation in seminars and workshops, and technology upgrades.
