Indian Citizens Evacuated from Iran
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Thursday that more than 1,200 Indian nationals have been safely evacuated from Iran amidst the ongoing conflict in West Asia. During an inter-ministerial briefing in the national capital, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the evacuation is being conducted via Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the central government coordinating efforts on the ground. According to Jaiswal, the total number of evacuated individuals includes 845 students. He further mentioned that 996 individuals have reached Armenia while 204 have arrived in Azerbaijan, where the MEA is providing assistance.
Coordinated Efforts for Safe Return
The spokesperson emphasized that the ministry is collaborating with Indian embassies in both Armenia and Azerbaijan, along with local authorities, to ensure the safe return of citizens. Arrangements have been made to assist those evacuated during their transit before returning to India.
Prime Minister's Engagement with Global Leaders
Previously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions with global leaders regarding significant international developments, including the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Jaiswal noted that the Prime Minister is currently in talks with leaders from various countries. In this context, on March 28, he spoke with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, where they discussed the ongoing conflict in the region. The Prime Minister condemned the attacks targeting energy infrastructure in that area and both leaders talked about maintaining open and secure maritime routes.
Return of Indian Nationals Amid Security Concerns
Meanwhile, as the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran enters its second month, over 600,000 travelers have returned to India from the West Asia region due to deteriorating security conditions.
Focus on Safety of Indian Community
The MEA also provided updates regarding an Indian national injured in the United Arab Emirates, emphasizing that the safety and welfare of the Indian community in the region remains the government's top priority.
