Sudhir Sharma, the MLA from Dharamshala, has expressed his strong disapproval regarding the unfortunate demise of a student from Bagni Panchayat, who allegedly succumbed to depression due to ragging and harassment at Dharamshala College.

Reports indicate that the victim faced assault, intimidation, and inappropriate behavior from three female students and a faculty member. Sharma labeled the occurrence as “deeply tragic for Himachal Pradesh and disgraceful for the state government.”

In a statement released on Friday, Sharma pledged his support to the grieving family and committed to pursuing justice. He criticized the state government for its inability to avert such incidents, asserting that any attempts to cover up the situation would face legal repercussions.

In response to the family's complaint, the Dharamshala police have filed an FIR under various sections of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009. Sharma expressed his astonishment that no action had been taken despite ongoing harassment since September of the previous year.

He further accused political influences of providing protection to the college staff, allowing them to shield the accused, which he described as a “serious issue that highlights the breakdown of law and order.” Sharma warned that if justice is not served, the BJP would organize protests.

The family had previously submitted a complaint on December 20 via the CM Helpline, which was subsequently directed to the Dharamshala police for further investigation.
