Tragic Discovery Sparks Protests

Authorities reported that the body of a 10-year-old girl, who had been missing since Thursday, was discovered in the Sulur area of Coimbatore on Friday. This tragic event has led to widespread protests across Tamil Nadu. According to police, the girl left her home to buy groceries on Thursday evening when she was abducted by assailants on a motorcycle and subsequently murdered. Her remains were later found near the Kannampalayam pond and have been sent to a government medical college and ESI hospital for autopsy.

Arrests Made in Connection with the Case

The suspect has been identified as Karthik, who has already been apprehended. Alongside him, his accomplice Mohan Raj has also been arrested. Both individuals are facing charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Government Response and Public Anger

The murder has ignited significant outrage throughout Tamil Nadu, prompting large-scale demonstrations. The state government has reached out to the victim's family, with Minister M.S. Sampath assuring them that the perpetrators will face the death penalty.

Chief Minister's Condemnation

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay expressed his condolences to the girl's family, stating that he was deeply pained by the incident. In a post on the microblogging platform X, he emphasized that such inhumane and unforgivable criminal acts cannot be tolerated in society. The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) has instructed the police to conduct a thorough and swift investigation and to take all necessary actions for an immediate filing of charges.

Political Fallout from the Incident

This incident has also stirred political controversy in Tamil Nadu, with opposition parties heavily criticizing the Vijay administration. Udayanidhi Stalin, the leader of the opposition and a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), condemned the incident, claiming that over 30 cases of sexual violence have occurred since Vijay took office. He stated on social media that this heinous act has shaken the entire nation, and calls for justice are echoing from all corners.
