Opposition Protests Halt Rajya Sabha Proceedings Over NEET Exam Paper Leak

Rajya Sabha Session Disrupted by Protests

New Delhi, July 22 – The Rajya Sabha session was adjourned until noon due to uproar from opposition parties protesting against police actions against students demonstrating over the NEET exam paper leak issue. At the start of the session, Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan paid tribute to the 20 workers who lost their lives in a tunnel accident in Sikkim's Namchi district, before presenting essential documents to the house.

During this time, opposition members attempted to raise their concerns. After the documents were presented, the Chairman allowed Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the opposition, to speak. Kharge brought attention to the police's actions against students protesting the NEET exam paper leak.

As soon as he began, members from the ruling party started creating a ruckus. In response, opposition members also began shouting slogans. Kharge accused the police of using batons against the protesting students and deploying tear gas to disperse them.

In solidarity with the students, many Congress MPs wore black shirts and kurtas to the session. Kharge was seen with a black armband. Amid the chaos, Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan suspended the proceedings until noon.
