Opposition's Stand on SIR Practice

In a significant demonstration at the Parliament's Makar Dwaar, opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party, and Akhilesh Yadav, head of the Samajwadi Party, voiced their concerns regarding the Special Intensive Review (SIR) exercise in Bihar. This protest saw participation from various MPs, including Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, RJD leaders Manoj Jha and Meesa Bharti, among others.

The protesting MPs chanted slogans such as 'No SIR, No SIR' and 'Stop Voter Ban'. Many of them held placards displaying messages against the SIR initiative. Congress MP Syed Nasir Hussain emphasized, "We will raise this issue vigorously. It is unacceptable for millions to be removed from the voter list overnight."


He further urged the government and the Election Commission to reconsider their stance on this matter. Prior to the protest, leaders from the 'India' coalition held a meeting to strategize for the monsoon session and decided to strongly address the SIR issue.
