Opposition Leaders Detained Amid Protests Against Voter List Revision in Bihar
Protests Erupt Over Voter List Revision
In Bihar, significant protests have emerged against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, with several leaders and MPs, including Rahul Gandhi, being taken into custody. Footage circulating on social media shows Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav jumping over barricades, while other opposition figures continued their march from the Parliament building to the Election House.
In response to the opposition's march towards the Election Commission, BJP leader and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan criticized their actions.
BJP's Response to Opposition Claims
Dharmendra Pradhan remarked that members of the INDI alliance, particularly Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, frequently invoke the Constitution. He asserted that the most anti-constitutional actions are currently being led by Gandhi himself. Pradhan emphasized that the SIR and the Election Commission's processes have become established systems worldwide, noting that this is not the first instance of SIR; it is a regular procedure conducted by the Election Commission across all states to organize the voter list.
He further accused the Congress party of spreading falsehoods about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and claimed that they fabricate new lies daily, referencing issues in Maharashtra and Haryana. Pradhan stated that due to continuous defeats in 2014, 2019, and 2024, the Congress party has reached a state of bankruptcy. He highlighted that recent debates have led Indian media to expose every lie propagated by Rahul Gandhi with factual evidence, asserting that the Congress and opposition are left with only vote bank politics, attempting to manipulate voters by including illegal immigrants.
Concerns Over Election Commission's Integrity
Pradhan also mentioned that when the Election Commission, as a constitutional and impartial body, conveyed the truth to the opposition, they threatened to dismantle the Commission. He criticized the language used by opposition leaders, suggesting it promotes divisive agendas within the country.
