Opposition's Stand on Government's Handling of Exam Issues
On Saturday, Babulal Marandi, the leader of the opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, criticized the JMM-led government, asserting that it should not distract from the serious issue of exam irregularities by merely engaging in discussions with protesters. A delegation of candidates protesting for the JPSC and JSSC exams met with Jharkhand Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu in Ranchi today. Marandi highlighted past discrepancies in exams, accusing the state government of not wanting candidates to secure government jobs. BJP leaders urged the government to initiate dialogue, suggesting it could help resolve the issues at hand. However, Marandi emphasized that the government should not use discussions as a diversion from the serious nature of the situation. Those responsible for the irregularities in the exams should face consequences.
Government's Response to Protests
He further mentioned that in January 2025, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of JTET over CTET and instructed the government to commence the recruitment process within three months. However, the government delayed the initiation of this process and instead filed an affidavit in court to cancel it. Marandi claimed that the government was not interested in providing jobs to the youth of Jharkhand. Due to recent irregularities in competitive exams conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), candidates have staged large-scale protests demanding transparency and structural reforms. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also participated in today's protests. Heavy security and barricades were set up to prevent the demonstrators from marching towards the state assembly.
Government Initiatives for Policy Reforms
After a meeting with the JPSC JSSC Reform Forum delegation, Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu announced that the state government has created a dedicated email ID to gather suggestions from students and stakeholders for policy reforms. Speaking to reporters, Minister Sonu expressed the government's commitment to engage in discussions with all student groups for collective decision-making.
