Allegations of Violence Against Opposition Leader

On Saturday, Shuvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, accused supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of assaulting him in the West Midnapore district.

Demanding the immediate arrest of those involved, Adhikari staged a protest at the Chandrakona police station.

He shared a purported video of the incident on social media, stating that around 8:20 PM, while returning from Purulia, he was violently attacked by TMC goons on Chandrakona Road in West Midnapore.

The opposition leader asserted that the attack occurred in the presence of police officers, who remained passive bystanders. He described this incident as an assault on every dissenting voice in the state.

Adhikari remarked that the desperation of the TMC is evident, as they resort to thuggery in the face of rising public anger.

He further stated, 'I am now sitting in protest inside the Chandrakona police station, demanding immediate action and arrests. The people of Bengal deserve better than this lawless tyranny. I will not leave until accountability is established.'
